The Skaalar Exo-Skin product line is an improvement of the X-2 circa 1993 by inventor/entreprenuer Allan D. Bain the inventor of Dragon Skin. Mr. Bain sold these technologies to Pinnacle Armor in 2000, and has now started manufacturing again as the non-compete agreement was satisfied in 2005, and the first product introduced in 2007 was a modification from the original X-2 flexible titanium system. Originally the X-2 was used to defeat A.P. pistol rounds for select areas in the world where A.P. pistol rounds are the main threat, for example, South China. Drugs trafficking is punishable by life in prison or death depending on which side of the border you are caught, either way the criminals tend to choose fighting than surrendering, and the X-2 was there to protect the police. The Skaalar Exo-Skin Gen 1 system has been improved, and is offered in trauma plates of various sizes as well as full sized panels. The results from a recent test demonstration is shown below left. The .40 caliber close distance shot is defeated convincingly in the Skaalar Exo-Skin ICW (in conjunction with) Gen 1 layer leaving the vest untouched and dramatically reduced the trauma an officer would experience with an OEM textile TP (trauma plate). We also make Gen 1+ which is the same flexible titanium format, but it includes textile materials like Kevlar XP and/or Spectra II, but generally Gen 1 Exo-Skin is sufficient. In the center picture below, the flexibility shown is phenomenal making these titanium trauma/stab plates very comfortable.  In the picture below right, it shows how easy it is to purchase panels made for your existing vest, and how flexible they are; this is great extra protection that can be installed or removed in a matter of seconds. We will have more information about Gen 2,3, and 4 in May, 2009. In the mean time the question you should be asking yourself is not why should I buy Skaalar Exo-Skin;  the Question should be why haven't you?

Our newest product is the Skaalar Exo-Skin Gen 3+, and it differs in many way to Dragon Skin. One it doesn't depend on tapered tiles resembling a discus, the problem with that is the edge is significantly thinner in comparison with the center and areas in between. No body armor company guarantees the edge of an armor product , but certainly a tile that is 7.5mm in the center and 4.5mm on the edge doesn't present as much protection as the thicker portions. The Gen 3 Exo-Skin utilizes flat uniform thick tiles to create uniform performance in non-overlapped areas. We use a different kind of containment system as well that allows excellent energy dissapation without adding excessive weight to the tile which is another issue with Dragon Skin. Lastly, we are using state of the art backing textile systems to catch spalling; more flexibility, more uniform performance, and less expensive, way less expensive.
